Biography

Michael E. Lyons: Experienced Maryland Attorney and Military Law Specialist

Michael E. Lyons ("Mike") is the managing attorney at Patriots Law Group, where he leverages over a decade of legal experience. Mike began his legal career in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, in 2007, handling complex litigation in areas such as construction defects, personal injury, real estate, contracts, family law, and criminal law.

In 2010, Mike embraced his family's military tradition by seeking a commission in the United States Air Force Judge Advocate General's Corps (JAG). On September 11, 2010, he was officially commissioned into the Air Force. From 2010 to 2013, Mike was stationed at Yokota Air Base in Japan, where he managed administrative discharges, Article 15 cases, and prosecuted violations under the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ) at all levels of the courts-martial system. During this assignment, he deployed to Herat, Afghanistan, supporting Operation Enduring Freedom, where he regularly ventured “outside the wire” to collaborate with Afghan judges, lawyers, and tribal leaders to rebuild the country’s legal system.

In 2013, Mike became the Chief of Military Justice at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, New Jersey, leading the prosecution of numerous high-profile cases, including those involving drugs, sexual assault, and child pornography.

In 2014, Mike transitioned from active duty to private practice, founding Michael E. Lyons, P.C., a general litigation firm based in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. His practice served clients throughout Maryland and Washington, D.C., focusing on family law, personal injury, construction disputes, real estate issues, and complex civil litigation. Mike has served as lead counsel on several high-stakes cases, including a $25 million military mold claim and a $30 million trust dispute.

At Patriots Law Group, Mike not only manages the firm but also leads business development and community outreach. He is a frequent presenter to Maryland bar associations on military divorce and military law. His expertise in this area makes him a sought-after consultant and trainer, particularly in matters involving the division of military benefits during divorce.
